Story
A unique fundraising and advocacy challenge led by John Shiels MBE, trustee of the Sir Bobby Charlton Foundation.
John is embarking on an extraordinary journey of 1500 miles: cycling to all 92 professional football clubs across the UK.
After a lifetime dedicated to football, including his role as former CEO of the Manchester United Foundation, John is embarking on an extraordinary journey: cycling to all 92 professional football clubs, 88 in England and 4 in Wales.
He will shine a light on the incredible work clubs do within their communities - from charity initiatives to vital grassroots engagement - much of which continues without government funding.
John will use the information gained on tour to lobby Government and the game’s decision-makers to address the needs of our children, raising awareness of the increasing lack of free, safe spaces for children to play.
At the same time, he’s raising crucial funds for the Sir Bobby Charlton Foundation, inspired by Sir Bobby’s lifelong love of the beautiful game and its power to change lives. The funds raised will go towards providing access for more children to enjoy free football, safe places to play and trusted adults to support them.
Sir Bobby was a passionate advocate for children to be able to play - to learn not just football skills, but life, team, leadership, and social skills.
Follow John’s journey, support the cause, and help us champion the role of football in changing the lives of children.
