Story

The Sussex Beacon Relay is a team fundraising challenge, taking place at The Grand Brighton Half Marathon on Sunday 23 February 2020. Teams of 4 runners will complete the 13.1 mile course in a relay, each completing just over 5k each by passing a baton between their team mates.

This event is first and foremost a fundraising event to raise vital funds for our services which help people living with HIV. The Sussex Beacon is an important service. Even though better drugs have helped many people living with HIV to live unaffected by the virus, there are still a minority for whom everyday is a challenge as a result of their HIV status. We run a 10-bed hospital unit that cares for this group of people. Without it they would end up on trolleys in A&E or in a bed in an acute ward. At The Sussex Beacon we can provide the specialist care and support that they need. We also provide health management services that assist people living with HIV to maintain their independence and avoid social isolation and loneliness.

The Sussex Beacon is a caring place that many people see as essential to their wellbeing, but we can not continue our work without supporters like our wonderful Relay Teams who raise vital funds towards our important services.

The team to fundraise the most for The Sussex Beacon will be crowned the winner of our Top Fundraiser prize and award.
