Towards Tomorrow Together provide support, resources and training for people affected by baby loss and people working within that community. This includes support before their loss, during their loss, on their grief journey and in subsequent pregnancy.
The funding will also enable us to provide our range of services in a sustainable way, developing processes, bringing on new volunteers and reliable services by funding salaries for permanent employees (a Therapist, a general manager and project support).
We provide a variety of resources and services to families affected by the death of a baby during pregnancy, labour, birth, or as an infant. We support them if they are given a life limiting diagnosis during pregnancy, through making difficult decisions about whether to continue their pregnancy. We support families around the time of their loss, throughout key stages on their journey healing after grief, and also in subsequent pregnancy after the loss. We support mothers and birthing people, fathers and non birthing people, siblings, the wider family. We offer accessible support to LGBT families, families from BAME groups, and people with disabilities including neuro diversity, autistic and deaf people.
We have a good understanding of a grieving family's journey through the different services that they may access. We know that parents discovering their baby has died in early pregnancy, receive little access to ongoing emotional support, resources or keepsakes. Parents are often confused about what options are available to them during labour, and making memories. They are discharged from maternity services less than 28 days after their baby dies, and there is no formal follow up from NHS or Social Care services, leaving parents needing to find and access their own support. When they are referred to mental health services, they often fall between the gaps between the primary care provision, secondary care provision and perinatal team being described as too complex for Talking Therapies, not experiencing severe and enduring mental health issues for CMHT and excluded from the perinatal mental health team as their baby is not alive and therefore not at risk. When we are able to provide more responsive services, in greater numbers, we will be able to bridge these gaps.
