Huracán FC Uganda

In Uganda, social issues such as child marriage, teenage pregnancy, and gender-based violence result in many teens, especially girls, dropping out of the education system. We can change this through the power of football.

All children need access to a good quality education.
At The Huracan Foundation, we inspire educators to use football in transforming educational outcomes and tackling priority social issues.
Football is the national sport in Uganda, so it comes as no surprise that we receive many applications from Uganda each year.
Our Project Leaders in Uganda include Charles Obore, Kenneth Oroma, Laker Winnie, Deniz Mirembe, and Andrew Magero. We are excited that, later this year, we will be announcing another Project Leader in Uganda too.
To continue to support children in Uganda to access education, it is imperative that we continue to fund our football for development projects.
Through the power of football, our Project Leaders encourage and motivate children to attend school, and achieve good grades in the classroom.
Only 1 in 4 children who start primary school make it to secondary school.
We address priority social issues that contribute towards children dropping out of school. This includes child marriage, teenage pregnancy, gender-based violence, and substance abuse. As well as this, we focus on gender inequality, mental health and well-being, and climate change.
Uganda is home to 5 million child brides. Of these, 1.3 million married before age 15.
The Huracan Foundation is proud to be a member of Football for the Goals, a United Nations initiative that provides a platform for the global football community to engage with and advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals.
