Story

Trauma Informed Mind & Body Programme

Lifecentre’s Trauma-Informed Mind & Body Regulation Programme creates a safe space for clients to reconnect with their bodies through gentle yogic and somatic movement.

Our Story

Lifecentre supports those who have had an unwanted sexual experience. Trauma is often held in the body in various ways, and trauma-informed mind and body regulation addresses these symptoms effectively. Our Trauma Informed Mind & Body Programme aims to improve the mind body connection, calm the nervous system and increase your ability to manage difficult emotions through yoga and somatic movement, mindfulness, and breathwork.

Complementing our talking therapy, it provides invaluable support to those navigating the effects of trauma and helps bridge the gap between being on our waiting list and starting therapy sessions.

All sessions are free, and we currently offer individual and group sessions for women over 18 at locations in Worthing and Crawley.

The program is available to clients throughout their journey with us, and we track improvements in areas such as anxiety, depression, and self-esteem.

About Lifecentre

Lifecentre provides free, specialist trauma therapy to individuals of all ages and genders, along with additional services such as our Trauma Informed Mind & Body program and psychoeducation support groups. Our mission is to help survivors unlock the past, survive the present, and reclaim their futures. We believe no survivor should suffer alone.

The Need

As the sole provider of these services in West Sussex, we’ve experienced a 13% increase in referrals in 2023, with 749 survivors currently on our waiting list.

Working with Trauma Through the Body

Trauma affects both the mind and body, influencing self-care choices and relationships. Long-term trauma can lead to PTSD and other stress-related health issues. Research shows that trauma-sensitive yoga and movement can significantly reduce symptoms of treatment-resistant PTSD. Increasingly, therapists are advocating for somatic therapies to help manage emotional and physical trauma responses.
