Story
Donate now to give sick and premature babies the best start in life.
Your donation will help Little Roo buy two state-of-the-art SLE 6000 Ventilators (breathing machines) that provide non-invasive modes of ventilation that are particularly beneficial to extremely premature babies (those born before 25 weeks' gestation).
Non-invasive ventilation means that rather than inserting a tube in a baby’s windpipe, they can receive the required breathing support through small prongs placed in their nostrils, or via a face mask.
Babies who are born prematurely, or who are extremely sick and admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), often require breathing support by way of being placed on a ventilator. This non-invasive mode of ventilation has been used with considerable success on St Peter’s Hospital NICU over the last 18 months. Dr. Ponnusamy, Neonatal Consultant
Your donation will make a real difference to tiny patients, and their families
The benefits of non-invasive ventilation for sick and premature babies are:
• Reduces their days of invasive ventilation and its short-term complications
• Improves their long-term outcomes for lung disease
• Minimises distress for babies
• Makes it a little easier for parents to have skin to skin and cuddles with their baby
