Story
tKC have continued to develop our in house community provision and currently offer the following free or low cost activities.
Rain or Shine - weekly term time outdoor playgroup, connecting children and carers with nature and wellbeing activities. There is now a small charge although as with all of our activities, if cost is a barrier, we are able to offer some free spaces. Thanks to historic fundraisers from 2024, we have been able to provide this for the duration of 2025. This runs from February half term to October half term outside.
Pop up Cafe - This has become a regular school holiday family provision. Opening up the youth room 2-3 days each holiday week between 3.30 - 5.30pm. We offer free to access craft and sporting activities with a donations based cafe. This summer, we trialled two sessions of pop up youth club specifically targeting young people making the transition from Primary to Secondary school in Kenilworth.
tKC are a referral and a collection point for Warwick District Foodbank.
Carnival - Volunteers from Radio Abbey, Trustee Board and Youth Club dressed a float and took part in the Carnival providing music and commentary while promoting activities at the centre.
Compassionate Kenilworth Partnership Projects
tKC have continued to work in partnership on a number of community projects with Compassionate Kenilworth. Since September 2022 we have delivered a series of Warm Hub/Community Hub events. These include delivery of a social Monday Hub, our regular monthly Board Games Hub, a monthly Community Dinner and Music Hub.
Board Games Hub - We run a monthly board game hub in our youth room. This is a free to access games hub where families & individuals can play a variety of board games. We have a partnership with Kenilworth Board Games society who attend regularly. These are funded by a variety of grants. Since Spring 2024, we have combined the monthly board games hub with a Sunday pop up cafe which increases numbers and allows us to offer a wider variety of activities to the community.
Community Dinners - We have hosted, with support from Cook, monthly free community dinners with music since October 2022. These have proved successful and a lovely opportunity for the community to socialise and eat together. These are funded by a variety of grants. Please see Sunday Dinner review for more information about this project.
Monday Hub - A recent initiative funded by WDC cost of living grant. tKC opens up the youth room on a Monday pm to the local community to come and socialise, play games, table tennis, pool, drink tea and chat. All are welcome.
Offering a free to access space, support and an opportunity to socialise is a key part of our delivery of community provision and with our strong partnership with Compassionate Kenilworth we will continue to plug the gaps in community provision and play a pivotal role in addressing social isolation.
School Breakfast Provision
Through Compassionate Kenilworth funding, we have delivered breakfast provision to students at Kenilworth School for the past 2.5 year - our Lead Youth Worker, Sam Metcalfe takes responsibility for managing this project, working with teachers and support staff to ensure that children can access breakfast items.
Supermarket Voucher Scheme - CK & tKC are in reciept of a grant to address cost of living and have been working with local referrers from Social Prescribing team, Kenilworth School and local faith groups to provide an emergency supermarket voucher to identified families and individuals in need alongside referrals for additional support. In line with Food Bank criteria and assessment process, we offer signposting and onwards referrals as part of this package of support.
