Toby was a founding member of Acer Minor (now known as BYBE). He was heavily involved musically at Newbury Music Centre, Reading Music Centre and Reading School. In September 2013 Toby took up a place at The Purcell School for sixth form in order to fulfil his dream career as a professional musician. He was a fine bassoonist and a prolific composer.
Berkshire Music Trust has a large stock of bassoons for pupils to begin learning on. However, maintenance of the instruments requires money far beyond the means of a charity, particularly in the current economic climate. This fund has transformed what we are able to do with our bassoons.
In addition to maintenance, we have over time bought new gig bags, harnesses, cleaners and reed boxes, as well as crooks, contrabassoon stands and a contrabassoon! We also maintain Toby’s bassoon for players who need the loan of an instrument at an elite level.
After the initial influx of monies donated at Toby’s funeral, the fund has been maintained by kind donations from individuals and by biannual fundraising concerts. This is our 10th Anniversary Concert, and we are looking forward to raising funds and celebrating Toby through music.
