Story
Across the UK almost a million older people will face a hidden crisis this winter: loneliness.
Most people won’t notice. They won’t see the days spent alone, in silence. They won’t realise the risks – like lonely people being 25% more likely to develop dementia. They won't understand that, for so many, the phone never rings – not even on Christmas Day.
But Age UK Somerset sees this loneliness crisis. And by donating today, you can help us tackle it across Somerset and North Somerset.
HOW?
Our Wellbeing Service provides volunteer companions for older people - to give them someone to talk to, something to look forward to and to help them remain connected with their communities.
Our Friendly Phone Calls, Wellbeing Friends and Walk and Talk services provide a vital lifeline, offering regular friendly phone calls or visits to those who are feeling lonely, forgotten or who have no one to talk to. Weekly contact from our friendly volunteers bring comfort, friendship and joy to older people and at times has been a life-saver.
These services cost money to run. For example each Volunteer visit costs approximately £10.
We need your support to help make life better and less lonely for local older people.
Every donation, no matter the size, is really appreciated and can help us provide the human connection that too many older people live without.
With your support, we can do so much more.
Together, we’re not alone.
