Tom Sliwinski
Tom is a learning disabled artist living in the Grange Centre in Bookham, Surrey. He has been attending art sessions in the Grange and at Artventure in Guildford for 8 years now and he showed great talent in drawing and painting. His favourite is pencil drawing, but he has experimented with many different art forms in the past years. Tom is interested in politics and he often shows his opinions through his work. Tom is also fascinated by the history and landmarks of his immediate surroundings, especially ghost stories, which he likes to choose as the subject of his work.
Tom submitted his work during the lockdown to Grayson Perry and he was featured in the TV program and his work was praised by Grayson. Tom is currently a commissioned artist by Daisy (Disability Arts in Surrey) working with mentor artist Julie Hoyle.
Tom at Artventure
Tom started attending Artventure sessions at the age of 25. His sketchbooks, large scale drawings, paintings and prints reveal his interest in politics and his surroundings. Tom started to work towards his solo exhibition in the past three years and made remarkable efforts and progress in using colours, experimenting with different art forms and scaling his work up using bigger canvases and papers. His body of work communicates his interests, sense of humour and attraction to the spiritual world. His work allows others to see from a learning disabled perspective.
The Exhibition
We believe Toms works belong to the greatest galleries, therefore we secured the Art Fund Prize Gallery in the Lightbox in Woking for his debut solo exhibition from 18th to 30th April 2023. We would like to offer the wider community the chance to get to know this remarkable, local, young artist and at the same time raise the profile of disability art with this exhibition.
