On May 19th, the Novi will spend the night in cardboard shelters to raise awareness of homelessness and learn from those Porchlight has helped to get off the streets and back in control of their lives. They will hear directly from people who have been supported by Porchlight who have kindly agreed to share their personal story of rough sleeping, and give the students insight into the realities of what homeless people face every day.
The next morning the boys will participate in activities that will help them understand the main routes to homelessness, the randomness of luck and chance in people's lives, and challenge their thinking behind the causes. They will be put through their paces having likely had a restless night's sleep, providing a small glimpse into the daily struggle faced by society's most vulnerable people.
Porchlight was originally founded to help people facing the devastating effects of homelessness, but today they also tackle the causes and consequences of poverty and inequality.
Tonbridge School has been one of Porchlight's most significant supporters over the years and we are privileged to continue this long-standing partnership. The funds raised over the years have saved countless lives, while also providing a valuable insight for tomorrow's leaders. It is a memorable experience for the Novi, the impact of which is often reflected upon by alumni.
How to donate: Find the specific House you want to support (there is a contest between houses) in the list on the right, or scroll down, or you can donate here to support the event overall. Anything you can give will mean so much to the boys and the people Porchlight support. Thank you!
