540 kilometres. 540 lives saved. Honouring every life saved, supporting every life yet to be rescued.

Every second counts when someone enters the water. On the Thames, that call for help can come at any hour, in any weather, and often in life or death circumstances. At Royal National Lifeboat Institution Tower Lifeboat Station, our volunteer crews stand ready 24 hours a day to answer that call.

Operating in the heart of central London, Tower Lifeboat Station is one of the busiest lifeboat stations in the world. Our crews have launched more than 11,700 times and, most importantly, helped save 540 lives. Behind every one of those lives is a person brought home safely to their family, friends and future.

To honour those 540 lives, members of our crew are taking on a six day challenge, between the 26th September to 3rd October: cycling 530 kilometres from the RNLI Support Centre in Poole to Tower Lifeboat Station in London. Every kilometre represents a life saved by Tower crews and the commitment of RNLI volunteers who are always ready to respond when people are in danger on the water.

This challenge is also about the future. Tower Lifeboat Station has recently welcomed 30 new volunteers who are ready to step forward and protect others on the water. Before they can respond safely, they need specialist training and essential protective equipment.

Our goal is to raise £10,000 to help equip and train these new lifesavers so they are ready when the next emergency happens.
