Story
The Kidney unit at Southampton Children’s Hospital cares for children from the South Central area, serving a population of approximately 8.4 million.
Through funding from Southampton Hospitals Charity, we aim to take a team of children to this event in Oxford, running 31 July - 3 August 2025, covering all the costs for the child and one carer/parent. This is extended to other family members if we exceed our initial funding target.
Kidney disease is a life-long condition and sadly transplantation is not a cure.
These children may need multiple periods of dialysis and several transplants throughout their lifetime.
The effects of this on the child, siblings and parents can never be underestimated, and we want to give a little bit back.
At Southampton Hospitals Charity, we bring people together to raise life-saving funds for University Hospital Southampton – the south coast’s leading healthcare provider.
Southampton Hospitals Charity is committed to enhancing healthcare in Southampton and beyond by supporting patients, families, and NHS staff in multiple ways.
In the hospital, we fund essential equipment, improve the environment, and enhance patient care to make the experience better for everyone during treatment.
In the community, we collaborate with hospital services and partners to help people stay healthy at home, reducing unnecessary hospital admissions and re-admissions.
For our NHS staff, we invest in their wellbeing and professional development by improving facilities and providing training opportunities, ensuring they are equipped to deliver the highest standard of care.
Finally, through research, we fund ground-breaking studies and clinical innovation, enabling Southampton’s leading researchers to advance treatments and improve outcomes across a wide range of medical fields. Together, we aim to make a lasting difference in healthcare for our community.
