Trek for our Track

We are raising funds to improve access to our care farm by resurfacing the track that runs through our site. Its surface is breaking up which makes getting around very difficult, especially for our students who are wheelchair users.

We are a 6 acre care farm, 36 acre nature reserve & tea rooms in Worcester that has transformed a disused quarry into vital habitats & teaching spaces giving people the chance to come together working with animals, plants & the land to learn rural skills helping to increase knowledge & independence.

Story

Wildgoose Rural Training is a care farm and nature reserve based just outside of Hallow in Worcestershire. Every year over 750 local residents access our services and enjoy all that Wildgoose has to offer.

This little patch of paradise provides a stress free, supportive environment for people to reconnect with the land and natural environment. Not only does this mean that people have the chance to unwind from the stresses of everyday life, but it provides students a change to gain a sense of identity, independence and encourages them to continue to grow to become the best that they can at a speed that suits them.

Our farm track plays a major part in this, allowing students to reach all parts of our care farm and dive into all that Wildgoose has to offer. It is the life line of the site and without it we would be lost. However, with all those pairs of boots walking across it over the years it has started to wear out in places, break up and is now very uneven. This makes fairly tricky for our students to get around site, especially for those who are wheelchair users.

We want to change this, which is why we started this very fundraiser. On September 21st our students will be embarking on a 5 day challenge to walk 100 miles along the length of our track in order to raise much needed funds towards it being resurfaced with a 6mm layer of tarmac to restore it to a smooth surface which our students will find walking on a breeze. Our students who are wheelchair users currently have a free 4x4 experience when heading around the site on our current track and this is neither wanted or enjoyable for them

Our target for this week is to raise £25,000 to cover 1942msq. This works out at £12.88 to cover each square meter. It a big challenge and it wont be easy as our students have varying levels of mobility, but as always they are determined to reach this goal.

We will continue to post updates on the run up to and throughout the event to let you all know how we are getting on, so stay tuned.
