Ironbridge, the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, played a key role in rail transport history. Its rich natural resources fueled advancements in iron production, leading to the first cast-iron rails in 1767. By 1802, Richard Trevithick’s pioneering steam locomotive, developed in Coalbrookdale, set the stage for Britain’s railway expansion. These innovations transformed industry and transportation, shaping the modern railway system.
Blists Hill Victorian Town is an open-air museum that brings the Industrial Revolution to life. Set on a former industrial site, it recreates a Victorian-era town with costumed interpreters, working shops, and historic buildings that showcase life in 1900. Visitors can explore authentic trades such as a blacksmith’s forge, print shop, pharmacy, and a traditional sweet shop, alongside working steam engines and a Victorian fairground. One of the museum’s most captivating exhibits is the replica of Richard Trevithick’s Locomotive. Its sights, sounds, and motion make it a major attraction, appealing to all ages. However, despite recent repairs, the locomotive’s plateway now needs full replacement.
With support, we can restore the track, ensuring the preservation and operation of this historic locomotive, and continue inspiring future generations with the story of early steam locomotion.
