Story

Why are we fundraising?

We are a local charity working with homeless and other vulnerable people in Winchester through a direct access drop-in center in the City. We support over 600 people per year and need your help to raise the £750 per day it costs to provide all our services to people in need, much of this is raised through events and individual donations.

We had to adapt quickly to the challenges brought on by the Coronavirus health crisis to make sure we can continue to aid those in need of our support.

The impact of the pandemic will create an increased need for our services due to people losing their jobs and income. Mental ill-health is likely to soar, and people will be in desperate need of the Trinity's help. Your support will help us to do this.

You can help by joining our Sleep Out

We are asking participants to join in the fun from their own homes on Friday 14th May 2021 and resist the temptation to jump back underneath their warm bed covers for one night.

The evening consists of a full programme of virtual entertainment streamed live through Facebook. Activities include exploring nature at night with nature experts Chris Packham and Megan McCubbin from BBC Spring Watch and a chance to take part in a cooking masterclass with Chef Jack Stein (from Rick Stein restaurants) who will be showcasing meals to cook with simple ingredients. Participants will also enjoy close up magic and illusions with magician Colin Phillips.

Shelter building experts Embers Bushcraft will be helping participants build their masterpiece to sleep out in and each participant will receive an extra special goody bag including a eco bag, beanie, torch, selfie frame and snacks to help them through the night. The evening will provide an insight into the work of the Trinity Winchester and a chance to hear from the clients it supports, including an exclusive look inside the new accommodation project, UnderOneRoof @trinity which is due to open in June2021.

Finally, as participants get ready to sleep out for the night, theyll will be able to enjoy a reading of A Cat Called Smokey from renowned actor Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey, W1A).

Every penny that you raise in sponsorship will go back into Trinitys services, to help us to keep offering long-term, positive change.

This is not an experience of being homeless, as we will all be taking part in our own homes or gardens, but it is a fun way to raise funds and awareness.

What do we provide?

- Bathing and laundry facilities, clean clothes, breakfast and a hearty hot meal.

- Access to all levels of help, from learning, advice and therapies right through to housing, and employment opportunities.

- A team of homeless healthcare professionals that offer GP, nurse appointments, chiropody, dental care and optician appointments.

- Supported accommodation

- 1-2-1 counselling with qualified and experienced counsellors.

- A specialist women's service to support women who are experiencing an area of vulnerability.

Our Future

We will open a new chapter in our 34 years of supporting homeless and vulnerable people this summer by providing accommodation on-site for the first time.

UnderOneRoof@trinity will comprise of 12 flatlets for people who are rough-sleeping repeatedly often the hardest to reach and to help in our community. Residents will be offered individualised person-centered support to help them get their lives back on track and move towards successfully living independently.
