Story
What
We want to work with a Clinical Trials Unit over three years, building up its ability and infrastructure to support UK urologists to submit proposals for assessment. In such a way, we can help consultants and researchers in the field develop and run their ideas as well as promote and disseminate successful outcomes. That means better treatments and more years of active life for tens of thousands of patients.
Why
With one in two people suffering from a urology condition in their lifetime there has never been a greater need for research in to better treatments and cures for urology diseases and conditions.
How
Developing a TUF Urological Trials Unit at the cost of £180,000 over three years, will result in a team of medical investigators helping urology doctors, nurses and researchers bring their ideas to fruition. This approach will enable more targeted trials to take pace. Successful trials are catalysts for change, providing the potential for transformational discoveries and driving improvements in services.
While we cannot specify what urological breakthroughs might be made, we do know that this approach has worked in orthopaedics, where similar investment has levered in £9 million of funding for trials which has driven improvements in practice. We also know that where medical staff are aware that their ideas might be taken up, and where hospitals can get involved in multi centre research, overall care is improved.
Your much needed help will also unlock further funding
We are in talks with a number of funders to raise the funding requirements of the project. One of these, The Hadley Trust, has said that it will match whatever is given to this appeal over November and December 2020 at a rate of £1:£1, up to a maximum of £10,000. In other words, for every pound that you kindly donate, one additional pound will be unlocked.
