On Monday 6th February, a Major 7.8 Magnitude Earthquake struck Central Turkey and North-West Syria, killing over 2,000 and injuring thousands. Death toll expected to rise into thousands as rescue workers search for survivors under the rubble of collapsed buildings.
A second major earthquake measuring 7.5 struck Central Turkey 12 hours later.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announces 912 confirmed deaths and over 5,400 injuries, with 2,470 rescued from destroyed structures. Bad weather and severe aftershocks hinder rescue efforts in the region. Millions across Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Cyprus, Israel and Egypt felt the earthquake, centred 60 miles from the Syrian border near Gaziantep.
