Story
Wildfires are once again devastating Türkiye. We are responding—together.
Raging wildfires have broken out in many provinces across Türkiye, most severely in Izmir, but also in Hatay, Manisa, Muğla, Çanakkale, Bilecik, Antalya, Bursa. In just the past week, at least 624 fires have been reported, devastating large areas of forest, threatening wildlife, and forcing entire communities to evacuate their homes.
We are launching the Wildfire Relief and Mitigation Fund to support local civil society organisations (CSOs) working on the front lines to provide urgent relief and long-term recovery. We will initially allocate GBP 10,000 to the fund, which we hope will grow thanks to your donations and make a meaningful contribution to the rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of these devastating events.
This is not the first time we’ve responded to such a crisis. In 2021, with the same fund, we supported five CSOs across Türkiye and reached over 1,160 people directly. These efforts included:
• Cash support for displaced and affected families,
• Urgent aid to women and children in rural villages,
• Protection of wildlife in fire-hit areas,
• Monitoring forest regeneration and biodiversity,
• Climate literacy training for community leaders.
Since 2020, thanks to our donors, we've distributed over £3.8 million in emergency grants to grassroots organisations providing life-saving support to communities impacted by disasters, including earthquakes, the pandemic, and wildfires. Now, as wildfires once again threaten lives and livelihoods, your donation will:
• Help provide shelter, food, water, and essential supplies to displaced families and animals,
• Support volunteers and front-line responders,
• Contribute to recovery efforts in affected areas.
Every donation makes a difference.
We’ve seen the power of community during past crises—join us again in responding to this emergency and protecting the lives and ecosystems under threat.
