Story

Behind the Smile charity was created in memory of our son, Zac, who ended his life after a period of mental ill health. He could not get the support he needed. Zac was just 29, he was discharged from the home treatment team and ended his life the next day, with no hope! This has been a story of so many since there is not enough support for mental health and services can be difficult to access for some people.

Behind the Smile provides peer support via face to face groups and an online platform, to support any adult with mental ill health and those bereaved by suicide. By offering the support we also aim to combat loneliness and isolation, which can be difficult to cope with at any time but this has been highlighted during lockdown, and can be a source of mental ill health. Suicide is on the rise so we want to work to prevent this by offering desperately needed support and that is available immediately without the long waiting lists. There are many plans for the future but this needs funding
