Story
Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade (TVLB) is the Declared Facility to HM Coastguard in North Tyneside. This means that whenever someone dials 999 and asks for the Coastguard in this area, our Search and Rescue team are deployed to assist.
We operate as a charity for historical reasons dating back to our formation in 1864. We are proud of our heritage in pioneering coastal search and rescue techniques, and continue to serve ourt community with professionally trained volunteers 24-7 all year round.
TVLB has around 20 members of the rescue team
We attend callouts covering search, rope, and water rescue as well as proving first aid to casualties on scene whilst waiting for any onward care.
It costs around £3000 to fully train and equip each new member, and around £35,000 to operate annually. We are a small - completely volunteer led - charity and rely heavily on the generocity of our supporters and fundraisers to enable us to continue to provide this year round service.
We are proudly stationed at our Historic Watch House on the Spanish Battery in Tynemouth which has an unrivalled collection of maritime artifacts.
We are very grateful for the support of our community. Thank you.
