Story
Our charity is raising money to complete phase two of renovating a generously donated village property into two new affordable almshouses for local people who need secure, low-cost homes. Warmington Almshouses Charitable Trust has provided housing in the village since the 1860s, when sisters Lady Charlotte and Frances Proby established three almshouses to support people in hardship. That original purpose still guides us today, and the charity is run entirely by a small group of local volunteer Trustees.
Our existing almshouses were fully refurbished in the late 2000s to modern standards, but costs escalated, leaving the Trust with long-term debt, which we are still responsibly paying down through residents’ weekly maintenance contributions. We have no paid staff and no endowment fund, so every major improvement or expansion depends on local support.
Demand for genuinely affordable housing in and around Warmington is rising fast, and the donation of this property gives us a rare opportunity to create two much-needed new homes. Funds raised through this campaign will go directly towards Phase Two of the renovation, helping us move the project forward as quickly as possible by covering building works, professional fees and essential materials. Every donation helps turn one generous gift into two secure, long-term homes, and protects a 160-year village charity for the future.
