Over the last year or so Friends of Twynham have been working on a plan to turn a very unused area in the Main Block into a mulit-purpose accessible space that the whole school can use.
Currently the ground and doorways are uneven; the space is mostly paved with a few bushes and trees.
The area is outdoors, but has walls on all 4 sides, making it a very unique space and sheltered from the elements. At the moment the only time it is used is once a week when gardening club go in and look after the plants in there and keep it weeded.
We want to change this! We are lucky to have a parent who is a landscape architect, and they have designed for us a practical, stimulating environment, where classes and clubs can take place, during lesson time as well as break, lunch and after school.
We want to include round picnic tables for lunch or outdoor classes. A circular hardwood tree bench to sit under the existing Mountain Ash tree in the centre of the courtyard. A UV shade sail for a private meeting area. Parasols and planters, and an eye catching solar powered water feature. As well as a circular pergola, decking, Purbeck rocks and oak posts, giving it a natural feel.
We have been able to secure around £27,000 so far to pay for this by applying for grants and also fundraising. However, we still are a bit short and that is where you come in. If every parent in the school were to give us just £2, we could smash the amount we need.
We really want to be able to book the work to be done over the summer holidays, but we have to have the full amount of funding for this to happen. So over to you.......
