CHRISTMAS TREE APPEAL 2021
This year the Christmas Tree Appeal could be better described as an Advent Appeal as we are asking you to commit to donate over the 4 weeks of Advent. In 2020 the government added £20 per week to Universal Credit on a temporary basis due to all the issues around Covid and the many restrictions in place. Only a few weeks ago the government stopped this payment after 18 months. People had budgeted this £20 per week into their expenditure. At the time of the announcement, it was also reported that both fuel and food prices were set to increase. The Appeal this year is for people, who can afford it, to commit to £20 per week throughout Advent, a total of £80. You can of course give less or more as your own circumstances allow.
The money raised this year will be split between Midlothian Foodbank and Marys Meals.
Marys Meals is a no-frills charity with a simple idea that works: by providing one good meal in a place of learning, children are drawn into the classroom where they can receive an education that could one day free them from poverty. Marys Meals is named after Mary, the mother of Jesus, who brought up her own child in poverty. Our vision is that every child receives one daily meal in their place of education. Working together, we believe that can be achieved in this world of plenty. Just £15.90 will feed a child for a whole year. (For more information on Marys Meals - https://www.marysmeals.org.uk)
You can donate online through this link or you can make a donation on the 4 Sundays of Advent -
28 November, 5 December, 12 December and 19 December.
