Gifts to the UNCCRI will allow us to continue our operations and continue to change the lives of cancer survivors. We hear story after story about how our program has saved lives, provided hope, and given encouragement to countless cancer survivors.

Students completing internships at the Institute work directly with cancer survivors as they recover from their cancer and their cancer treatments. Students complete medical screenings, conduct comprehensive physical assessments, construct exercise intervention programs, and directly supervise exercise interventions for cancer survivors in our facility in a one-on-one setting. Students gain valuable experiences and learn core techniques that are necessary for working in the fitness and healthcare industries. The cancer survivors we serve are right here in our own community, and UNCCRI is one of the best examples of a true service-learning environment; students learn while serving our community. Students are also involved with research that is being conducted at the Institute. They are afforded the opportunity to be involved with study design, data collection, and data analysis and they have opportunities to present research findings at local, regional, and national research meetings.

The purpose of the program is to improve the quality of life of cancer survivors through exercise-based rehabilitation. The University of Northern Colorado Cancer Rehabilitation Institute (UNCCRI) was established in 1996. The Institute is the only facility of its kind and is recognized as a frontrunner in exercise-based cancer rehabilitation. UNCCRI has served thousands of adult cancer survivors with all types of cancer in various stages of treatment. Research initiatives have produced over 150 national presentations, journal articles, and manuscripts that all culminated in a published textbook. Educational endeavors have resulted in more than 500 students mentored to conduct clinical and basic research in cancer rehabilitation. International and national educational programs along with public and private sector consulting services which teach others how to implement and manage cancer rehabilitation centers have established UNCCRI as a leader in the field.
