Story
We are inspired by the Gospel ('Good News') of Jesus Christ, whose birth is celebrated at Christmas as a sign of hope for the poor and marginalised, including the homeless.
This year, proceeds from our Christmas Appeal will be shared with Durham Winter Night Shelter.
A Christian social justice initiative, the Night Shelter provides emergency accommodation for the homeless population of Durham City. In the last 5 years, more than 200 places have been taken up.
At the Cathedral, throughout the winter months, the Chapter House is open as a designated Warm Space for anyone seeking respite from the cold.
You who live in the shelter of the Most High, say, 'My refuge, my fortress.' He will cover you and under his wings you will find refuge. (See Ps. 91, vv 1-4).
