Visit the charity's profileIn 2023, the increase in the number of applications in our University Scholarship project, was an indicator of the success of the UPG Sponsorships program, as it measures the longevity and success that the children remain with us studying. From a total of 50 applicants, 13 finalists were selected, which join 7 scholarship students from the previous year, a historic number for A Little Gesture.
The ALG University Scholarships provide young dedicated poor students the opportunity to undertake university studies. The Uni Scholarship holders are preferably young students who have been involved with our organisation, either through the Sponsorship programme or engaged as ALG Technicians, local teachers or volunteers, with a proven merit and eager to study. These youngsters are usually from Chongoene, Chokwé or Xai-Xai, to where they usually go back after concluding their studies, with higher capacities and the potential to benefit the local community. Between £1000 and £1800 per year, depending on the degree and location, allows ALG to finance living expenditures, ensuring mainly university fees, documentation and enrolment costs, with occasional support to living conditions such as accommodation and meals.
