Organised by DeafKidz InternationalThis Deaf Awareness Week, we're turning the well-used phrase You're On Mute on its head, and asking people to UNMUTE to donate and support deaf children in low-income countries by teaching sign language and helping to remove communication barriers.
Over the last year, the world has been thrown into a new way of living and working, spending hours staring at screens on video calls. Each with its own frustrations; people cutting out, WiFi problems, glitchy videos, and that predictable moment when someone tries to speak, while on mute.
Everyone shouting "You're on mute!" Frustrating isn't it?
But imagine being a deaf child in a developing country , where no one knows sign language , or even thinks you can communicate. Imagine your whole community on mute.
Unlike you, deaf children cant just click on a button to make communication happen.
This Deaf Awareness Week (3rd - 9th May 2021), let's UNMUTE for DeafKidz International . So they can work to remove communication barriers , make things safer for deaf children , without fear of stigma, discrimination and abuse , and empower deaf children to succeed.
