The Eunice-Upendo Project is an Irish registered Charity supporting the Upendo Children’s Rehabilitation Center (UCRC) in Muranga, Kenya. The UCRC was founded in 1997 by Mrs. Eunice W. Kamotho, a local woman who dedicated her life to support orphaned children in the area. The Upendo Center currently provides accommodation to 40 girls aged 4 to 15 and also operates a nursery and primary school for 87 children from poor local families. By donating to The Eunice-Upendo Project, you are helping us to provide shelter and education to the Upendo children. The funds collected by The Eunice-Upendo Project are used to pay the teaching staff and secondary school tuition fees for the eldest girls. We are also seeking to provide some help (via volunteers skilled workers) to build a new dormitory to accommodate the children, in partnership with US-based charity East Africa Children's Hope (E.A.C.H.). The Upendo Children's Rehabilitation Center, UCRC is a NGO registered in Kenya. Registration Number : 000097 with Ministry of home affair, Kenya. The certified Kenyan NGO we support, Upendo Children's Rehabilitation Centre (UCRC), also known as Upendo School and Childrens Home is an orphanage and school located in the rural East of Muranga County in Kenyas Central Province.

UCRC does not provide its orphans with a secondary education. Consequently, it is essential to send the girls to different secondary schools. Sadly, only 48% of girls in Kenya attend secondary school, among orphans, the statistic drops even further. We can add that the percentage of the population aged 15+ which has completed secondary school is only 13.30%! Regarding primary schooling, only 21.95% of the population aged 15+ have completed primary school. Upendo provided its 40 orphaned children with a very good primary education.

History: Back in 1997, Eunice W.Kamotho, the founder of UCRC, the Kenyan NGO we support, decided to act and save a group of orphans. 26 years later: Over 50 girls have graduated from the primary school and other over 500 children from the neighboring areas who school as Upendo Primary. Over 50 girls have graduated or will be graduated from secondary school. And Eunice managed to lead 36 girls to University & College or technical training. Also, 500 local children benefit from an education at Upendo Primary School Upendo. Our plans are to continue and educate the more than 50 currently at the Upendo childrens home through scholarships to secondary boarding school and post secondary school. These scholarships allow the girls to continue their education while learning a sense of independence that will carry them through the rest of their lives. Their secondary education will allow them to escape the cycle of poverty they currently face in rural Muranga
