Smethwick is to host UK's largest Vaisakhi celebrations on Sunday 24th April 2022 to mark the Sikh nations collective birthday.
Vaisakhi open air celebrations outside Guru Nanak Gurdwara Smethwick is a FREE family event open to all members of the community and includes Sikh cultural activities, funfair, arts and crafts, martial arts and entertainment.
There is a Langar area (marquee in which free food is served) which is an important part of the Sikh faith with food being prepared by the Gurdwara (places of worship). The Darbar Sahib (court of the Guru and worship hall) inside Guru Nanak Gurdwara Smethwick is an important sanctum, this is open to all communities to visit and understand the Sikh faith.
As we have seen in recent news headlines the cost of living has rocketed. This rise also affects the Gurdwara, the rise in costs includes the price of ingredients required for Langar, electricity, gas, water and other expenses. The Gurdwara is solely funded by the Sangat (congregation) and we need your support to make Vaisakhi 2022 Open Air Celebration on Sunday 24th April 2022 a success. The costs we will incur will include the infrastructure, security, road closures and medical cover, these are all required for the event to proceed.
