VetBills2025

Organised by Consett Cats

A new campaign to help us raise funds to cover all the extras we have to pull out for with every cat. If we are lucky it's simply monthly flea/worm treatments but more often than not its treatment for illnesses.

We rescue and rehome, spay/neuter & chip, stray, feral and abandoned cats. We promote neutering and chipping providing a discounted program to the public when possible. We provide help/advice to the public about their cats welfare and behaviour. We offer a free scanning service for any found pets.

Story

I do not think I have met a cat yet that did not need more money spending on it than the simple things like the neutering, the vaccines and the microchip. That would be a very cheap cat indeed (in the grand scheme of things).

The fact is we are taking in cats that have maybe lived a harsh feral life before we trapped them, they can already have been exposed to all sorts of viruses and bugs or they may even have injuries that need treating.

The funding for treatment is not covered by our standard adoption donations that come in and so we have to run an extra campaign each year which we simply entitle, Vet Bills.

Over the course of a year some cats may cost use £1000s in vet bills as we struggle to get them fit and well again and available for adoption. Some may only require the usual monthly flea/worm treatment on top of their basic vet costs. Those are the lucky cats and also often in the minority. Or maybe they simply have a good constitution.

Others of course seem to really like to have us run ragged by catching every bug known to man and then hanging onto it for weeks. We love them really but my goodness they are a challenge. They are the costly ones and thats why this campaign is here.
