Story

Veterans Dementia Support UK is a small but growing charitable organisation dedicated to supporting members of the Armed Forces and Emergency Services community who are living with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, or memory loss.

We are a volunteer-led initiative, the organisation brings together trained individuals with experience in dementia care to provide practical help, emotional support, and guidance to both veterans and their families.

Our core mission is to ensure that no veteran facing dementia feels isolated, while also recognising the significant challenges experienced by carers and loved ones.

We focus on delivering personalised and compassionate care, acknowledging that each individual’s experience with dementia is unique. Its services are designed to address not only the cognitive effects of the condition but also the emotional and social impact it can have on individuals and their support networks.

By offering tailored advice and creating accessible support systems, Veterans Dementia Support UK aims to improve quality of life and promote a sense of community among those affected.

A central part of our work involves facilitating community-based support groups and social activities. These include friendship groups, coffee mornings, memory cafe's and reminiscence sessions where veterans can share experiences from their service in a familiar and understanding environment.

Such activities are intended to stimulate memory, encourage social interaction, and reduce feelings of loneliness. We also arrange social outings and events for veterans and their families, helping them maintain meaningful connections and routines.

In addition to group activities, Veterans Dementia Support UK provides one-to-one support through a network of trained volunteers. These volunteers offer regular contact, practical assistance, and signposting to other relevant services, ensuring individuals receive help tailored to their specific needs.

We also place strong emphasis on supporting carers, recognising the pressures they often face. Dedicated carer support groups, both in person and online, allow individuals to share experiences, access advice, and take time for themselves while their loved ones are engaged in supervised activities.

We need to raise funds to continue our services and grow as the demand on our services is increasing daily and we will ensure that no one living with dementia has to do it alone
