Story

This June, Peter Wright, one of the stars of Channel 5's The Yorkshire Vet, is taking on a 3 day Coast-to-Coast cycle challenge to raise funds for a new hospice in Thirsk: Herriot Hospice@The Lambert.

The new hospice will be a warm, welcoming place for people living with terminal illness, helping them feel comfortable and supported, with care as individual as they are. The hospice will have an inpatient unit, bereavement support rooms, an education centre, café and community hub facility. The space will also become the home for Herriot Hospice Homecare's much-loved and already established community services. Once open, the new facility will enable Herriot Hospice Homecare to help an extra 500 people a year.

Peter shares why he is so passionate about hospice care:

I understand how difficult and stressful it is to have a relative being looked after in a hospice or hospital way out of our area. I have known people having to travel huge distances to visit their loved ones, and not being able to see them regularly at this most difficult of times.

Im a big believer in charity beginning at home and its fantastic that people across Hambleton and Richmond will be able to make use of this fantastic facility. To be able to have this level of care on our own doorstep is priceless
