Story
Friends Of March Railway Station is a Registered Charity, run solely by volunteers, and was set up in 2009 to preserve and restore the heritage and history of the disused buildings at March Station. The Group have been donated a Great Eastern Railways 1884 Victorian Railway Carriage, which is currently being dismantled and relocated from its current site back to its former hometown of March. The aim of this page is to raise funds to complete the restoration and convert it into a Tea Room for the benefit of travellers and local people using the station. There are currently no refreshment facilities located at the Station so we believe this project would be a welcome addition to March by daily commuters and residents of the town.
Our FOMRS Facebook page currently has around 2.7k followers. If each one of our current followers donated a minimum of just £1.00 each, this would see the Group well on its way to reaching the target set to help restore this irreplaceable piece of history.
The Group will need to purchase building materials to repair the flooring, restore the original woodwork of the carriage, repaint it in its original G.E.R. colours and refit the interior to allow it to be used as a functional tea room.
Please help us by giving what you can. Every donation will be used in the restoration of the carriage to recreate it to its former glory, bringing the Golden Age of Steam back to March Station.
