Story

Following the announcement that this years London Marathon has now been turned into a virtual event to take place on 4th October, we have decided to support our Golden Bond Marathon runners by creating an event for them on the day, that they can safely attend with social distancing and run with other runners. To support them we are creating a total of 100 race places to run the Marathon distance 26.2 miles from Wenford Bridge to Wadebridge on the Camel Trail and back and get that some of that Marathon party atmosphere.

This largely level route follows the route of an old railway line and the Camel River, offering lovely trail running through beautiful countryside and wonderful views along the banks of the Camel. There is a just a small section on pavements through Wadebridge Town Centre.

This is a once in a lifetime chance to run alongside London Marathon runners, in this only ever virtual London Marathon. Entry will be on a first come, first served basis and we must limit places on the day. Staggered starting times for social distancing will commence from 10am at our big pink start arch a Wenford Bridge Car Park. Water and feed stations will be enroute and TeamCHC will be at the start, half way, and the finish to award you with our very special Virtually London 2020 TeamCHC Medal. Cost of entry is £25 and this includes a teamCHC running vest or t-shirt as worn by our Marathon runners, your Medal and a special personalised certificate. In exchange we require that you raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship, you may also self-fund that if you wish.

We are running this event to support out runners but also to raise funds to keep the beds open in St Julias and Mount Edgcumbe following devastating losses to our income; lockdown closing our shops and cancelling our events. The cancellation and deferral of the Marathon comes as yet another financial blow to the care we provide for those last treasured moments.

All you need to do is sign up, download the free Strava App, join our Team CHC Strava Club where we will track your run and share your stories, photos on our media channels.
