Story
Veterans Outdoors is a UK-registered charity dedicated to supporting former members of the Armed Forces and their families. Our mission is to promote well-being, reduce isolation, and foster community through structured outdoor activities, including horticulture, conservation work, guided walks, bushcraft, and other nature-based projects. We recognise that many veterans face challenges when transitioning to civilian life, including issues related to mental health and social isolation. By providing safe, supportive, and purposeful opportunities in natural settings, we aim to help individuals rediscover a sense of belonging, improve confidence, and build lasting connections.
The 100 Mile Dartmoor Challenge
Veterans Outdoors is inviting veterans to take on a personal mission: walk 100 miles across Dartmoor. Through our Dartmoor walking group, each participant will work steadily towards their own 100-mile goal. With walks averaging 5–6 miles, progress will be logged after every outing—mile by mile, step by step—until the challenge is complete. After all, every great journey starts with a single step. Each veteran is encouraged to set up their own JustGiving page, selecting Veterans Outdoors as their charity. By fundraising individually, each walker not only takes on a personal challenge but also raises vital funds to help us continue supporting veterans and their families.
