We’re lacing up our boots and walking with purpose — not just for ourselves, but for the people of Angus.
The Voluntary Action Angus (VAA) team is taking part in the 2025 Kiltwalk, raising vital funds that will directly benefit our local communities. Every penny we raise will be invested in Angus — we're simply the stewards of the funding, ensuring it reaches the people and places who need it most.
At VAA, we exist to empower the Third Sector, strengthen volunteering, and build more connected, compassionate communities. From helping isolated individuals find belonging, to supporting small charities to survive and thrive, our work reaches across every corner of Angus.
We're walking to raise funds that will:
Support local volunteers to make a difference in their communities
Empower grassroots organisations to grow and adapt
Create new community initiatives that tackle isolation, poverty and health inequalities
Help people access life-changing services and support
“We don’t walk for ourselves. We walk for the people of Angus — for every charity, every volunteer, and every community initiative making a difference every day.– Hayley Mearns, CEO, Voluntary Action Angus
You might remember our last major campaign during the COVID-19 pandemic. With your support, VAA mobilised over 1400 emergency volunteers, supported more than 150 local groups, and helped coordinate a compassionate response that support over 2,000 Angus residents weekly.
Here’s what we’ve achieved more recently:
✅ 1,456 active volunteers supported through our local volunteering platform
✅ 390+ third sector organisations engaged and supported across Angus
✅ 1,200 individuals accessed our Community Link Worker service last year
✅ 100+ events and community sessions delivered in 2024 alone
✅ £2.3 million in funding distributed directly into local third sector initiatives

These numbers tell a story of action — but behind every number is a person whose life has been made better thanks to community support.
“Thanks to VAA, I found purpose again through volunteering after I lost my job. They helped me connect to something bigger than myself.– Community Volunteer, Angus
“We’re a small charity doing big things, but we wouldn’t have survived without VAA’s support and the funding they helped us access.– Local Organisation Leader
The funds raised through this Kiltwalk will go straight to the heart of our communities. This is about keeping the lights on in community halls, helping volunteers get the training they need, giving someone a reason to leave the house again, or helping a new organisation take its first steps.
At VAA, we hold the funding — but your support powers the people.
Sponsor Team VAA — every donation, big or small, makes an impact
Share our story — help us reach others who believe in community
Walk with us in spirit — and know you’re helping build a better Angus
Your support isn’t just a donation. It’s a step forward — for Angus, for community, for change.
“Together, we go further. With your help, we’ll make sure no community in Angus walks alone.– The VAA Team
