We have now closed this campaign having reached the target it one week and now exceeded it. The money is now being distributed to the artists. Thank you to everyone who contributed.
Vox Holloway was due to return to the Hackney Empire on 29 March this year with Freedom Song, When Gospel Came to the Empire. We sold out Hackney Empire in 2019 and we were looking forward to sharing the story of the Fisk Jubilee Singers and their wonderful music with a new audience this year. Sadly, the show has had to be postponed.
We are an amateur choir but we are privileged to work with some of the best professional musicians - composers, librettists, conductors, singers and instrumentalists in the country. We know what a hard time creative freelancers are having at the moment and will continue to have in the coming months. As a charity, our resources are limited and for this show we were depending on ticket sales to allow us to pay the professionals involved.
We recognise that many people have been badly hit by the current situation and may not feel able to contribute but we also know that there are others whose financial position is more stable and who would like to do what they can to help. We would welcome any contribution you are able to make to support our friends who have done so much for the choir with such good spirit over the years. We will ensure that everything you contribute to this campaign will be distributed to the artists who have missed out because of the postponement of the show.
