2020 Vox Holloway Artists' Support Fund

Organised by Vox Holloway

Vox Holloway is privileged to work with many professional singers and musicians. Their earnings have been badly hit by Covid-19. We are raising money so we can support them and continue to work with them now and in the future.

We're open to all: there are no auditions and you don't have to have any experience. We perform an eclectic range of classical, ecclesiastical, folk, pop and world music much of it composed by our Director, Harvey Brough. Check out our campaign page for our next exciting project: The Sun Does Shine.

Story

This year Vox Holloway had exciting plans to celebrate its tenth anniversary year with an ambitious programme of six concerts and two recordings. Sadly, because of Covid-19 we have had to cancel our March, May and June concerts. We still don't know whether any of the events we had planned for later in the year will go ahead. We do know that it is going to be a long time before we will be able to gather together to sing and share music and perform to a live audience. And we are deeply concerned about the implications for the professional musicians who work with us. They lead the choir, compose and arrange our music, write the libretti, perform as soloists and play at our concerts and in our recordings. We are hugely privileged to work with them. They are an important part of what makes our community choir unique. Because we have had no concert income, the support we have been able to give them has been limited. This is why we are asking for your help.

Although we suspended our rehearsals in March, we've been streaming past concerts and we're supporting the creation of new works for Vox to perform in the future. In May we launched the brand new 'Virtual Vox' and for the last ten weeks, we have brought together well over a hundred people, including our friends from the Hackney Empire Community Choir and University of Southampton Voices, for virtual rehearsals every Tuesday night.

We are delighted to be streaming our first VIRTUAL VOX concert at 8pm on Saturday 11 July on the Vox Holloway YouTube channel. We will be joined by jazz legend Liane Carroll with James Maddren on drums; Andy Hamill on bass; James Murray on piano; the Vox Holloway All Star Soloists: Harvey Brough, Christina Gill and Clara Sanabras and some additional Special Guests. The link to the concert will be posted here nearer the time.

VIRTUAL VOX will sing Harvey Brough's choral arrangement of Edward Elgar's Sea Pictures and Victorian part songs, plus jazz standards and originals with Liane Carroll. Please ask everyone you know to join us, it's a concert for everyone, not just the Virtual Vox singers.

We are not charging for the concert so anyone can join us but we are asking those who can to make a contribution to our Artists' Support Fund. We recognise that many people have been badly hit by the current situation and may not feel able to contribute but we also know that there are others whose financial position is more stable and who would like to do what they can to help. We welcome any contribution you can make to support our friends, the brilliant artists who have been so committed to Vox over the last ten years. We will ensure that everything you contribute to this campaign will go to them.
