In 2020 Vox Holloway was due to celebrate its tenth anniversary year with an ambitious programme of six concerts and two recordings but in March we had to cancel everything we had planned. We are very proud of the fact that the choir has continued to run online rehearsals since May last year, and has streamed two wonderful online concerts, but the pandemic has had a huge impact on the professional musicians who work with us. They lead the choir, compose and arrange our music, write the libretti, perform as soloists and play at our concerts and, because we have had no live concert income for more than a year, we have not been able to support them as much as we would normally do. This is why we are asking for your help.
We are delighted to be streaming our third Virtual Vox concert 'Everything Must Change: Songs of Liberation and Transformation' on Friday 26 March 2021 at 7.30pm. The video will be available until 7.30pm on Friday 2 April 2021.
From Kurt Weill to Johnny Cash and Nina Simone, our concert draws on some of the greatest songs of the last century to create a musical experience that will strike every chord of our painful and challenging era.
Join our team of world-class soloists, Christina Gill (alto), Clara Sanabras (soprano), Wills Morgan (tenor), Rick Leigh (tenor) and Michael Henry (bass), who were last seen together in our Hackney Empire gospel hit, Freedom Song, and our brilliant band: David le Page (violin/viola),
Eleanor Turner (harp),Liam Dunachie (piano/organ),
Oli Hayhurst (bass)
, Chris Vatalaro (drums).
And sing along at home with 130 Vox singers, becoming both chorus and witness to a soul-searching music that encompasses despair and anger, injustice and rebellion, but also hope and a fervent belief in the possibility of a better world.
We are not charging for this concert because we want to make it as widely available as possible but we are asking those who can to make a contribution to our Artists' Support Fund. We recognise that many people have been badly hit by the current situation and may not feel able to contribute but we also know that there are others whose financial situation is more stable and who would like to help. We welcome any contribution you can make and we will make sure that everything you give to this campaign will go to our musicians.
We are confident that our live performance of Freedom Song at the Hackney Empire which was supposed to happen in March 2020 will finally take place in the autumn of 2021. We have also begun work on a brand new piece which we hope to perform later this year. To be kept informed about Vox Holloway performances and other events, please sign up for our newsletter.
Thank you for your support. We hope you enjoy the concert.
