Story
On the 25th of October, our Rotary club will come together for the Walk & Wheel A Mile for End Polio Now.
🚶♀️♿ — A simple act with a powerful purpose: to raise awareness and support Rotary’s mission to finally eradicate polio.
Why does this matter? Because just a few decades ago, polio paralysed hundreds of thousands of children every year in more than 125 countries. Today, thanks to Rotary’s leadership and its partnership with organisations like the World Health Organisation, UNICEF, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and others, polio has been reduced by over 99.9%.
Since 1985, Rotary and its partners have immunised more than 2.5 billion children across the globe. That’s billions of families who no longer live in fear of a disease that once devastated lives and communities. 🌍✨
But the fight isn’t over. Polio is still endemic in just a few places, and until we stop it everywhere, children everywhere remain at risk. That’s why events like our Walk & Wheel are so important — they remind us that together, step by step, we can achieve a world free of polio.
📌 And don’t forget — World Polio Day is 24th October, a global day of action and awareness. Our Walk & Wheel follows the next day, so we can keep the momentum going and show our community that we stand with millions around the world working to End Polio Now.
If you can't make the walk you can donate to our Just Giving page to show your support and work for a brighter, healthier future. 💜
