After the great success of the Walk for Water events in 2023 and 2024, we’re excited to announce that it’s happening again in 2025! In partnership with Women Making a Difference, this year’s walk will raise funds to bring clean water to the village of Ouena, Burkina Faso.
Highlights from the 2024 Walk for Water
- Home to over 20,000 people, Ouena faces extreme poverty and a harsh climate with droughts lasting nine months of the year. During the short rainy season, families collect rainwater, but for the rest of the year, women and girls must walk long distances every day to fetch water from rivers or wells. These sources are often polluted, making it difficult for the community to stay healthy and thrive.
- By taking part in this year’s Walk for Water, you’ll help drill two boreholes in Ouena—providing a reliable source of clean water.
- A local water source will create lasting change, especially for women and girls. With clean water close to home, girls can stay in school instead of spending hours fetching water. Women will gain back valuable time for household tasks, learning trades, or even earning an income. Livestock will thrive with a steady water supply, boosting food production and the local economy. Most importantly, the community is taking ownership of its future—local leaders have already committed to funding maintenance and repairs, setting the stage for long-term self-sufficiency.
