Lonh lives in Cambodia and grew up speaking the Bunong language. It was only when he joined the army that he learnt to read and write, but only in the national Khmer language. Learning to read meant he was able to read the Bible – and that changed everything. ‘There were no Bunong Scriptures at that time, so I read the Khmer New Testament,’ Lonh explains. ‘I read about how God forgave our sins, commanded us to follow him and have faith in him. It was then that I believed and followed him.’

God is using Lonh to translate the Bible for his Bunong people. Before he became a translator, God spoke to Lonh through a dream that the Bunong people need God's word in their own language. Just like a coffee tree needs water and fertilizer to grow strong, with good roots and produce fruit, Lohn says; ‘I want the believers in the Bunong churches to have a deep, strong faith, through reading the Bible in their own language. This is my hope for the future.’

Having the New Testament in Bunong has made such a difference to the church. Before, even the pastor's would struggle to understand God's word as they read and then taught from it. But now with the New Testament in their language, the lives of Bunong people are being changed as they can now understand the good news about Jesus Christ. But they are not finished as they long to have the whole Bible, so Lonh and the Bunong team are hard at work translating finishing the Old Testament.
