Story
We are a group of staff, volunteers and supporters from ACCORD Hospice who are walking the West Highland Way in September 2023 to raise vital funds for ACCORD. As an organisation, ACCORD supports over 1700 people and their families every year who are affected by life limiting illness. They provide specialist palliative and end of life care in the Hospice, the Hospital and the Community. They also offer grief counselling and bereavement support through the Renfrewshire Bereavement Network.
We 6 walkers represent the Walking with Grief Group at ACCORD, a group that supports people who have experienced loss of a partner and come together to seek and give support, friendships, and to walk! It seemed only fitting that we walk to raise funds for this amazing cause because of the space and support given to all of us by them. We are ‘walking with hope’ to also remember those that we love and have lost and will be happy to honour others while we walk. We hope it helps us to remember their loved ones too and to find support and hope for the future.
We are planning to stop at points in each day and we will read out the names of those we are walking to remember. If you would like us to read your special person’s name, please email joy.elliott@accord.org.uk and please put Walk of Hope and the name of the special person you would like us to remember.
Each day around 12.00 we will read the names out while we are walking this will be found on our Facebook page. We plan to do live streams of the walk, but this will be variable dependent on signal.
Please do help us by sponsoring if you can – any amount welcome!!
We are Robert, Jennifer, Peter, Gillian, Jacki and Joy . We will walk 96 miles over 6 days from the 22nd September so look out for updates!! Thank you so much!
