Story
The River Spirit Dragon Boat Team, a proud member of the Campbell River Dragon Boat Society, was founded over 20 years ago as a breast cancer survivor team. As a non-profit, community-based organization, River Spirit is dedicated to promoting breast cancer awareness while supporting survivors and their families through the sport of dragon boating.
Dragon boating has been shown to enhance the physical and emotional well-being of breast cancer survivors, offering both exercise and connection. Through regular training, participation in races across Vancouver Island, and strong camaraderie among team members, River Spirit has become well known for its perseverance, positivity, and community spirit.
On October 4th at 10:00 am, River Spirit will host its annual Walk of Strength, a 5-kilometre walk dedicated to raising awareness and funds for breast cancer care in Campbell River. This heartfelt event is a time to honour those we have lost, celebrate survivors, and show support to anyone impacted by breast cancer.
This year’s walk will support the purchase of a new Ultrasound E10 system for the Medical Imaging Department at Campbell River Hospital—a leading-edge tool in the early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer. This state-of-the-art ultrasound system provides clearer, more detailed imaging, which helps radiologists detect abnormalities earlier and with greater accuracy, ultimately improving outcomes for patients.
All donations will be directed through the Campbell River Hospital Foundation.
From all of us at River Spirit, thank you for standing with us as we walk in strength, in memory, and in hope.
