In 1899, His Eminence Cardinal Herbert Vaughan wrote to Reverend Mother Marie Augustine, the Superior General of the Daughters of the Cross of Liège. He asked that she, along with other Sisters, start a residential school for children with epilepsy.

In 1900, after plans were submitted by Architect Mr E. Ingress Bell, a cottage and some land were acquired at Perry Green in Much Hadham. The cottage cost £200, and every acre of land cost £2.21. The entire purchase was completed at a cost of £1,253, and building commenced shortly afterwards. First mass was taken on 23rd September 1903, and on 1st March 1904, the School opened with the first three children.

Jump forward 120 years, St Elizabeth's is now a leading provider in specialist care and education for people with epilepsy and other complex needs, continuing the wonderful work established by the Daughters of the Cross of Liège over 120 years ago.

To mark our 120th anniversary, we want to take on a challenge! As our site is exactly 1 mile all the way round, we have decided to walk the equivalent amount of miles it would be from Much Hadham to Lourdes, and raise vital funds along the way.

We are starting the event with a special Mass to celebrate our anniversary, with the challenge lasting the whole of September.

All funds raised will be put towards fun and engaging community trips for our School students, College learners and Adult clients.

We will ALL be taking on the challenge, and hope you will get behind us to help us reach our target!
