The Warrington Fund brings together local businesses, charities and public services to tackle some of the most urgent challenges facing people in our community. Led by Cheshire Community Foundation, the fund supports high-impact local charities that are supporting the people of Warrington to thrive.
The issues are complex. Poverty, mental ill-health, loneliness and hidden homelessness are growing across Warrington. One third of children in the town are now growing up in poverty. Many of the people worst affected are also the least visible. The Warrington Fund was created to change that, by pooling resources into a central ‘pot’, to support the most vulnerable and strengthen the community for everyone by opening a grant programme that all charities can apply to, whatever their size.
Since launching in 2023, the fund has already awarded more than £155,000 to local charities. Over 6,000 people have benefited, through projects that reduce isolation, improve mental wellbeing and give people the tools and confidence to rebuild their lives.
This progress has been made possible thanks to the generosity of our founding supporters: EMR, C4 Projects, Flex, Warrington Borough Council, BGEN and Sellafield Ltd. Many of the grants awarded so far have also been jointly funded by the Steve Morgan Foundation, helping to increase the reach and impact of the programme. A donation of any size directed into the Warrington Fund can have such positive impact, and coordinating limited resources allows use to achieve more, together.
In 2024, the fund launched a three-tiered grant programme to address rising levels of loneliness and isolation in Warrington. It offered:
Microgrants – Up to £1,000 for grassroots, community-led projects
Project grants – Up to £15,000 over two years for charities developing existing services
Strategic grants – Up to £30,000 over three years for established organisations with strong track records
Funding was focused on helping people feel more connected, building confidence and resilience, and strengthening local organisations.
In 2025, the Warrington Fund will focus on tackling poverty – a growing challenge across the borough. Depending on the funds we can secure by June 2025, we will deliver more grants to local charities working directly with people facing hardship, helping them meet basic needs and move towards greater stability. Alongside this, we continue to bring businesses and charities together to share knowledge, pool resources and drive real change for Warrington.
The Warrington Fund is a growing movement of individuals, businesses and organisations who care about the town and want to make a difference. Your support could help us reach hundreds more people over the coming year.
