WCF & WCFS Messiah Fundraising Campaign

Worcester Festival Choral Society hosts the inaugural charitable performance of Messiah at Worcester Cathedral on 6th December. WCF is the official Messiah charity partner, raising funds for local disadvantaged children and young people.

We fundraise to support Worcestershire's community groups and charities of all kinds, wherever there are needs in the county.

Story

This Christmas, we invite you to support local children and young people through the power of music!

WFCS brings its annual performance of Handel’s glorious and much-loved oratorio, Messiah, back to the magnificent, specially candlelit surroundings of Worcester Cathedral - now, as an annual Benefit Concert for charitable causes in Worcestershire.

The MESSIAH BENEFIT CONCERT will raise funds for Worcestershire Community Foundation (WCF), the official Charity Partner. Funds raised will be distributed to local causes and projects supporting the health, education and well-being of children and young people.

Written more than 280 years ago, Messiah remains one of the world’s most popular choral works...but did you also know that this celebrated piece has been doing good in society since 1742?

From the very first charitable performance in 18th century Dublin, when three local charities benefitted, Messiah has made a profound impact on health, well-being and social change. It even inspired the building of the world’s first purpose-built, and still continuously operating maternity hospital - the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin. Handel then ensured that subsequent performances of his Messiah in London were also Benefit Concerts. The funds he raised supported the Foundling Hospital, where the composer oversaw the music education of the children in its care. Both institutions continue to perpetuate Handel’s vision to this day!

Now, echoing that spirit and continuing Handel’s charitable legacy, Worcester Festival Choral Society and Worcestershire Community Foundation have created a special fundraising partnership that will support the health, well-being and education of children and young people across our county.

Give Your Support to the ANNUAL MESSIAH BENEFIT CONCERT!

100% of all donations given will go to projects supporting those most in need in our county.

There is an opportunity to make your donation - either when you purchase your Messiah tickets (see link below) or as a stand-alone voluntary contribution - through this page.

Through charitable donations made with ticket purchases, and additional philanthropic donations, WFCS hopes to raise a significant sum for Worcestershire Community Foundation each December.

Every penny raised will go to WCF funds, for distribution in grants to the most deserving youth-related causes in our county.
