Story
This new building will be a clothes bank, but more importantly, a warm and comfortable space.
Women will be welcomed into a place where they feel safe, and can look through, the clothes and toiletries. The main centre is busy and this will be a calm alternative.
This clothes bank will offer a chance for some peace, to sit with someone, and if more support is needed, then we can provide it.
Importantly, it will also provide a new route for women in the community to access Anawim. They can collect new clothes with dignity, and take advantage of the other services offered, for example the foodbank, or caseworker support.
We need the clothes bank for other more straightforward reasons too.
We are given a lot of clothes by the community to use, or sell on, for which we are hugely grateful. BUT - we are about to lose both our storage space and our shop in Moseley - and we need somewhere for them to be housed.
The clothes bank will also support our social enterprise schemes, and our women in their pathways into work. Currently champions (Anawim women) and volunteers contribute in our shop and bring new ideas and perspectives.
This will continue in the clothes bank - and it will help us to concentrate on targeted fundraising - like online sales and pop-up events.
At Anawim, we support women with a range of complex and interconnecting needs. Many come directly through our open access drop-in.
Anawim offers gender-informed and trauma-responsive wraparound support to enable those women to reach their potential. All of our services are free, whether it’s intensive supervision or simply a bag of food.
All money raised from this campaign will go into Anawim's general fund.
