Story

We are celebrating the bicentenary of the game of rugby football in 2023 with a cycle pilgrimage from the birthplace of the Game to the final resting place of William Webb Ellis in Menton, France. Starting at The Close, our route takes us via Twickenham and the Stade de France to Menton. This 1,000 mile challenge will take these hardy cyclists 14 days and will be to raise funds and awareness for:

Matt Hampson Foundation which does amazing work to inspire and support young people who have been seriously injured through sport.

The Rugby School 1823 bursary fund which is in honour of Webb Ellis who was a bursary student. The bursary will offer means-tested places at Rugby School for boys or girls who show significant promise and aptitude for sport and a commitment to Rugby Football, with up to 100% of fees and essential extras available.

All amounts raised through donations will be split 50/50 between the two charities.

Updates of the cycle tour will be shared on our social media channels @rugbyschool1567 #rugby200
